Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Training Requirements for Security Officers
1. Obtain a Guard Card.
Complete & pass (8) Hour Guard Card Course
Get a live scan completed ( Fingerprints – background check)
Submit Guard Card Application, Application Fee & Copy of completed Live Scan.

2. Once Employed, complete (16) Hours of Mandatory Training within the first (30) days of employment. (Elective Block)

Observation & Documentation
Communication and its Significance
Legal & Liability Aspects

3. Once Employed, complete (16) Hours of additional courses of your choosing within the first (6) months of employment. (see courses below)

If you fail to take the Mandatory Elective Block (no matter when you receive your Guard Card), you are out of compliance with BSIS and your Guard Card is NOT Valid.

Weapon Permits
1. Baton Permit
Complete the (8) Hour Baton Certification Course and receive your Baton Permit.

2. Chemical Agents (Pepper Spray)
Complete the (4) Hour Chemical Agents Course and receive your Chemical Agents Card

3. Taser Certification
Complete the (4) hour Taser Certification Course and receive your certificate as a Certified Taser Operator

4. Firearm Permit
Complete the (16) hour Firearm Certification Course and receive your Exposed Firearms Permit
Submit Firearm Application & a completed Live Scan Form to BSIS.
Must also complete a mandatory Requalification course during the year.

If you carry any of the above weapons without having completed the courses your out of compliance with BSIS and in violation of the penal code. These classes must be completed.
