Parent Educational Coach (Fresno)

  • POSITION ROLE:
     
    This position is responsible for engaging parents in the education and academic achievement of their students. This person will develop, recruit, plan, promote, schedule, manage and lead parent workshops and Family Literacy nights at Reading and Beyond-affiliated sites. Success will be measured by the academic progress of students whose parents participate in the program, as compared to students whose parents did not participate.
     

     
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
    1) Represent the mission and vision of Reading and Beyond at public events, and meetings; and must agree to abide by the Personnel Policies of Reading and Beyond.
     
    2) Recruit and retain parent participants.
     
    3) Create and lead parent workshops and trainings on a variety of educational topics that will empower parents to understand and take an active role in their child’s education, especially in the area of reading and literacy.
     
    4) Conduct assessments with parents to assess their knowledge acquisition of workshop content.
     
    5) Assist parents in monitoring their student’s academic performance and progress.
     
    6) Develop and prepare content for all parent workshops based on parent interest and need.
     
    7) Meet with parents individually to discuss student progress and individual student learning plans, including home visits.
      8) Conduct outreach to encourage and motivate parents to take part in the scheduled workshops and Family Literacy nights.
     
    9) Prepare, track and maintain, all program records including, attendance sheets, sign-in sheets, parent contact information, mailing lists and assessments.
     
    10) Perform related duties as assigned.
     

     
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
     
    Qualifications
     
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field and minimum of two years of related experience;
     
    • Bilingual English/Spanish required;
     
    • Experience working with parents and demonstrated knowledge of academic, social, and cultural need of disadvantaged families;
     
    • Strong problem-solving, and judgment skills.
     
    • A strong ability to work independently, multi-task, and set priorities to accomplish various instructional and operational tasks.
     
    • Excellent community-building and communication skills: written, verbal, and interpersonal.
     
    • Ability to encourage and motivate others
     
    • Competency/experience with PC systems and standard software (Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Internet skills.
     
    • Demonstrated administrative experience including excellent organizational skills, work with a high degree of accuracy, and a willingness to adapt to changing situations.
     
    • Personal attitude that includes flexibility and good sense of humor.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Seeing to read a variety of materials.
     

     
    Special Requirements
     
    • The candidate must have reliable car and maintain updated license and insurance
     
    • All Reading and Beyond staff is required to submit to a background check.
     
    • Candidate must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
