Client is searching for their first Database Architect to join their growing Operations team. You will work with their developers and operations team to build, maintain, optimize and scale all aspects of their database systems. You will be the go-to decision maker in helping them to handle the incredible growth they continue to see. This is primarily an operational role, but system design, capacity planning, and build-out are also a big part of your life. You will be required to be on call and do everything in your power to make sure the systems never go down. But when trouble erupts, you are not phased by the pressure, and can methodically analyze and solve problems for a quick and elegant solution based on the preparation you’ve put in place to handle such situations.

This is a highly cross-functional role — monitoring performance and feeding information back to our developers is critical, and you will work closely with everyone on the technical team.

What you bring to the role:

•Significant experience managing complex production database systems, preferably at a large consumer-facing Internet site
•Expert with MySQL: server tuning, query optimization, replication strategies, storage engines, monitoring, capacity planning, backup, HA, etc
•Strong Linux/UNIX experience
•Comfortable with system tools (iostat, lsof, etc.) and have a favorite file-system
•You understand best practices well enough to know when not to follow them
•Proficient in the scripting language of your choice (shell, Perl, PHP, etc) for monitoring and custom automation
•Experience with NoSQL systems, Mongo, Hadoop, or Java is a plus
•You function well in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change is the norm and the bar for quality is set high
•Sense of humor and a positive attitude are non-negotiable
•Passion for online or console games is preferred
•BS or MS in Engineering or a related field is preferred
